![]() 1. A 6” non-reinforced Portland cement concrete floor slab will have 3,300 linear feet of control joints, & 144 independent panels. 2. This slab will experience curling at the control joints, panel movement, and joint deterioration due to movement. 3. Multiple concrete placements are required. 4. This slab will have many joints, require a lot of care, and have a limited service life. ![]() 1. A 6” reinforced slab with #4 rebar, compensated for shrinkage with CONEX, will have NO CONTROL JOINTS, and thus, no individual panel movement. 2. The slab will function as a single unit and provide positive load transfer across the concrete slab. There is a saving of 3,300 linear feet of jointing material and construction placement. 3. The slab will be done with a single concrete placement (the entire 22,500 sq.ft.). 4. There will be fewer joints, it will require less care and will provide for an extended service life. ![]() USING CONEX ![]() The base will be smooth, well compacted, and the surface saturated but free of water. The surface may be covered with a layer of heavy-duty poly sheet, such as “Star Tex 420 BI.” if a vapor barrier is desired. Minimum shrinkage reinforcement of 0.15% by cross section of concrete shall be provided by using stiff, deformed bar reinforcement, #4 in size (1/2” diameter). Reinforcement shall be located in the upper half of the slab by chairing. Reinforcement shall be stopped on either side of the temporary construction joint bulkheads that surround each day of slab placement, and a single layer spaced as follows: ___________________Thickness of Slab________________Distance on Center_______ _________________________6”______________________________20”____________ _________________________7”______________________________18”____________ _________________________8”______________________________16”____________ _________________________9”______________________________14”____________ ________________________10”______________________________12”____________ SCC will be accomplished using an expanding mechanism of calcium hydroxide platelet system as produced by CONEX, manufactured by IAI, complying with the standards of ACI-223. The testing for restrained expansion (RE) will be in accordance with ASTM C-878. Amount of CONEX to be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions to achieve the desired RE. Joints shall be constructed using the “PNA Diamond Dowel” system, or other slip dowel system. Curing will be accomplished using water for a minimum period of 48 hours. (A 7-day water cure is preferable if conditions allow.) Immediately after water curing, a curing/sealing compound, such as “Ashford Formula” or “Sealtight CS-309/30” will be placed on the surface to assure maximum water retention in the slab. | What is CONEX | Chemistry | Concrete Characteristics | Facts about SCC | CONEX & Floor Slabs | Pre-Stressed | Links | | Return Home | CONEX | Projects | What's New | Our Services | Contact Us | |
