![]() 1. A 6” non-reinforced Portland cement concrete floor slab will typicaaly have 3,300 linear feet of control joints, and 144 independent panels. 2. This slab will experience curling at the control joints, panel movement, and joint deterioration due to movement. 3. Multiple concrete placements are required. 4. This slab will have many joints that require a lot of care and maintenance, and have a limited service life. ![]() 1. A 6” reinforced slab with #4 rebar, compensated for shrinkage with CompCon, will have NO CONTROL JOINTS, and thus, no individual panel movement. 2. The slab will function as a single unit and provide positive load transfer across the concrete slab. There is a saving of 3,300 linear feet of jointing material and construction placement. 3. The slab can be accomplished with a single concrete placement (the entire 22,500 sq.ft.). 4. There will be far fewer joints, it will require less care and maintenance and will provide for greatly extended service life with lowest life cycle cost. ![]() USING Compcon ![]() The base will be smooth, well compacted, and the surface saturated but free of standing water. The surface may be covered with a layer of heavy-duty poly sheet, if a vapor barrier is desired. Minimum shrinkage reinforcement of 0.15% by cross section of concrete shall be provided. Reinforcing shall be in the top half of the slab with minimum cover as recommended by ACI. SCC shall be manufactured by adding CompCon Type G component, as manufactured by ShrinkageComp Plus Inc., to a standard concrete mix design meeting specification requirements. Testing of restrained expansion for trial mix designs or for specification compliance shall be in accordance with ASTM C-878. Amount of CompCon to be used shall be as determined by trial mix design. ShrinkageComp Plus can make dosage recommendations to achieve the desired RE. Joints shall be designed and constructed in accordance with ACI 223 "Guide for the Use of Shrinkage-Compensating Concrete". Recommended curing shall be a 48 hour water cure. (A 7-day water cure is preferable if conditions allow.) Immediately after water curing, a curing/sealing compound, such as “Ashford Formula” or “Sealtight CS-309/30” shall be placed on the surface as be manufacturer's recommendations to assure maximum water retention in the slab. | What is CompCon | Chemistry | Concrete Characteristics | Facts about SCC | CompCon & Floor Slabs | Pre-Stressed | Links | | Return Home | Products | Projects | What's New | Our Services | Contact Us | |
