What is CONEX

Product Description:

CONEX is a calcined inorganic compound in powder form, meeting standards of expansion measured in accordance with ASTM C878. CONEX is used as an expansive component with Standard Portland Cement to produce Shrinkage Compensating Concrete (SCC).

Packaging:

CONEX is packaged in bags, pails, and one-ton super sacks.

Dosage:

The quantity required will be governed by the following:
1. Percentage steel reinforcing
2. Thickness
3. Water cement ratio
4. Humidity
5. Early concrete strength

Dosage ranges are expressed as a percentage of cementitious materials in the mix. Usual ranges are as follows, but tests should be conducted to determine the best percentage to achieve the desired results.

1. Maximum shrinkage compensation

Restrained----8%-10%

Unrestrained--6%-8%

2. Decrease of maximum shrinkage--3%-4%

Use With Admixtures:

CONEX may be used in concrete with admixtures such as fly ash, WRA’s, and second/third generation superplacticizers. It is recommended that SUPERPLAST (IAI’s superplasticizer) be used when higher plasticity is required. In all cases, the initial set of the mix should not be allowed to exceed 8 hours.

Advantages:

CONEX can keep shrinkage cracks to a minimum, increase durability, water-tightness, and tensile strength of concrete

Caution:

CONEX is caustic like cement, and should be handled like cement and stored in a dry area. If CONEX comes into prolonged contact with the skin, irritation may occur. Wash with soap and flush thoroughly with water.
