What is CompCon

Product Description:

CompCon is a calcined inorganic compound in powder form, meeting standards of expansion measured in accordance with ASTM C878. CompCon is used as an expansive component with Standard Portland Cement to produce Shrinkage Compensating Concrete (SCC).

Packaging:

CompCon is available in bags, pails, super sacks, and in bulk to meet individual project needs.

Dosage:

The quantity of CompCon required per cubic yard of concrete will be governed by the percentage of reinforcing and the specified concrete strength.

Dosage ranges are expressed as a percentage of cementitious materials in the mix. Usual ranges are provide below as a guideline. ASTM C-878 tests should be performed to determine the best mix design to achieve the desired results and to meet specification requirements.

1. Shrinkage compensation

Restrained----8%-12%

Unrestrained--6%-8%

2. Shrinkage reduction or limitation

To meet specifications--3%-8%
--3%-6%

Use With Admixtures:

CompCon may be used in concrete with other components such as fly ash, slag, and silica fume. CompCon may be used in concrete with admixtures such as: air entrainers, WRA’s, second/third generation superplacticizers, and other admixtures. In all cases, the initial set of the mix should not be allowed to exceed 8 hours.

Advantages:

CompCon can eliminate or minimize shrinkage cracks, eliminate or minimze slab edge curling, increase durability, water-tightness, and tensile strength of concrete. And at the same time, decrease the cost of the in place concrete on most projects.

Caution:

CompCon is caustic like cement, and should be handled like cement and stored in a dry area. If CompCon comes into contact with the skin, irritation may occur. Wash with soap and water and flush thoroughly with water.
